In order for a nurse aide to be employed in South Carolina at a medical facility which provides care to patients, they must be certified by the state first. CNA Certification in South Carolina comes after the nurse aide has completed a number of tasks required by both the state of South Carolina and federal law. South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services approves CNA training in the state, which needs to be attended in order to start the CNA certification process.
With the completed training, the nurse aide would go on to apply for and take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination conducted by Pearson Vue. With all the necessary requirements completed, the nurse aide would be certified and credentials could be accessed through the South Carolina State Nurse Aide Registry. Training programs in the state of South Carolina require no less than an 80 hours of course which have both a classroom study and an active skills study. The active skills study is to be completed while on-the-job and under watch of a registered nurse. More than 140 approved courses can be found within the state of South Carolina in high schools, colleges, vocational schools and many medical establishments. You will be required to submit to an investigation of your history by the FBI and be up to date on all immunizations before you are admitted to take the course.
At the completion of the course, you will be fully prepared to take and pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination. Apply by mailing completed application along with the $101 fee for testing and registration. You will also need to include a copy of your certificate from completed training program to this entity.
On the test day, bring 2 photo ID’S, 3 NO.2 pencils with erasers, a watch with second hand and your social security number. You must dress comfortably with flat, skid proof shoes. You will have Two hours to complete 70 multiple choice problems and 25 minutes to properly demonstrate hand washing and 4 other nurse aide related skills. In order to pass the skills portion, you must pass 4 out of 5 skills you are tested on. To master the written portion of the exam, you will need to receive a 70 percent. Official test results are often available immediately, but some testing centers may require you to wait for results by mail. With passing scores, you will be listed on the South Carolina State Nurse Aide Registry. Your certificate and wallet ID will be mailed to you by Pearson Vue within 10 days.
