Federally initiated and controlled, any nurse aide wanting certification in the state of Nevada must meet specific eligibility requirements. They must complete CNA training in Nevada that is listed as being a valid course of study by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.  Once the cna classes are  complete there will be an exam registration, followed by the National Nurse Aid Assessment Program examination (NNAAP). Then the aide will have to contact the Nevada State Board of Nursing and fill out the Application for Certified Nursing Assistant certification, requesting that they are certified and placed on the Nevada State Nurse Aide Registry.

Working in a medical setting such as a long-term elderly care facility as a CNA has its rewards, as you know that you will be doing something fantastic for the community. Many nurse aides find tremendous personal rewards working with other health professionals to care for disabled or elderly patients who may not have anyone else to help them. With the recorded amount of elderly patients rising quickly, there is a significant need for qualified applicants in the certified nursing assistant position.

Approved CNA training in Nevada has a few basic requirements. The enrollee must submit a past history check, fingerprinting and health screening. From there, the enrollee must be present for 75 hours of class instruction including 18 units of skills studies. Nevada is not like other states that require the curriculum to be from a specified, specially created course. Training programs can include any 18 units that are related to the nurse assistant qualifications but need to include an active portion done in a clinical setting after the first 16 hours of course studies. The active learning is designed to get the nurse aide ready to pass the skills evaluation part of the NNAAP.

The licensing exam can often be taken at the facility where you took your classes, but you may need to preregister at another facility. To be listed on the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry and officially be a nurse aide, you need to pass both portions of the test. The written part contains 55 multiple choice questions with a time limit of 2 hours. These questions will be on a variety of skills that you learned throughout your CNA training program and may contain a few reading comprehension questions to ensure that you are proficient in the English language.

The second part of the exam is designed to test your active nurse aide skills that you practiced in the hands-on training. You will have no more than 35 minutes to exhibit the randomly chosen tasks on a volunteer in front of the testing administrator. Often, candidates are required to take this section first before moving on to the written exam. If you pass both parts, you are considered immediately certified; however, it may take up to four months for you to appear on the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry.

There is a reported 29% growth rate for the next 6 years in the CNA position according to the Nevada Department of Employment. The current listed median CNA  salary  in Nevada is $28,585, and your earnings will rise along with experience in the field.
