The state of Illinois currently has a high need for certified nursing assistants as hospital and state regulations have increasingly become stricter with requirements.

Illinois currently requires that candidates complete a state approved program is completed before seeking employment within this field. The Illinois Department of Public Health must approve the CNA training program that you choose, or you may find yourself not able to sit for the exam, so choose your CNA classes wisely.

You will need to undergo a full physical examination and a background check prior to enrolling in a school. This is normal for most jobs in the medical field, and is necessary to ensure the good character of employers in efforts to maintain patient safety. Other requirements to work in a licensed facility as a nurse assistant include passing the Nurse Aide Competency Evaluation Exam. Thisexam is conducted by the Illinois Nurse Aide Testing Program,  and it must be taken and passed no more than 120 days after completion of your training.

After the completion of the CNA certification program, the written competency test is taken. The person must be physically present at a testing site and be prepared to show state provided identification. Bring along your copy of the certificate you received after completing your nurse aide program for good measure. Dress comfortably and be ready to concentrate for about three hours.

Certification testing is often  conducted about once every month and require a fee dependent on schedule. During the test, there are 229 tasks broken into 6 groups that the person must complete. Scoring is based on the number of correct answers, and the written portion will be  graded electronically, while the practical portion is based upon your success performing the assigned procedures. Some testing sites offer immediate results, but others may send the results in the mail or post them online. If you pass, you are added to the Illinois Nurse Aide Registry and are ready to seek out a great employer.

The average CNA Salary in the state ranges between 21,000 and 29,000 dollars depending on what city you choose to live and work.  The U.S. Department of Labor reports that this field will have more growth on average than any other between now and 2016, partially due to the  increase in need for long term care for elderly patients.
